Maura Ackerman

Maura Ackerman is one of many co-founders of SOFSA and has served as Executive Director since the organization’s inception in 2019. Maura's approach to leadership is relational and repair-oriented – she strives to build containers where people learn democratic skills, redistribute decision-making rather than just resources, and measure success by what the coalition can achieve collectively. Before Syracuse, she spent a decade in Boston working in anti-hunger advocacy, food access, and community health. She holds an MPH and MS in Nutrition from Tufts University, with a focus on agriculture, food, and environmental policy.
